Aruba

Situated about 20 miles (or 30 kilometers) from the coast of Venezuela, Aruba is a fascinating island and a world away from the South American continent that looms so close. Still technically part of Holland, most of the locals here speak Dutch as well as papiamento, a tongue that blends Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, and West African to form one unique language.

The island is loaded with the usual lovely Caribbean trappings: stunning beaches, seaside bars and restaurants serving colorful cocktails and ultra-fresh fish dishes, casinos, and super-welcoming locals.
