Australia is the smallest continent and yet one of the largest countries in the world. This nation consists of many diverse landscapes such as low plateaus with deserts, fertile plains, mountain ranges and of course the famous Great Barrier Reef. The city of Cairns is the perfect place to jump onto a liveaboard and sail off into the sunset. Just north of Cairns lies a string of 10 individual coral reefs called The Ribbon Reefs, because they are well beyond the reach of the day boats and the Green ‘No Take’ zoning, it is some of the best diving on the Great Barrier Reef. One of the more famous dive sites at the northern tip of these reefs is called Cod Hole, where a family of potato cod reside and are like large docile dogs, easily approachable and not afraid of divers. Some of the other dive sites you visit on your liveaboard include, Challenger Bay where you might see barracuda and lionfish or Lighthouse Bommie which is one of the best places to see minke whales and possibly Pixies Pinnacle where harlequin ghost pipefish, leafy scorpionfish and lace scorpion fish are frequently encountered. The warm, sheltered waters and vast array of marine life make diving here a blast for anyone.
